Outline of work:

My PhD focusses on how adults use gesture alongside speech when communicating with others. I am currently running studies on how speakers adapt their use of gesture to communicate information depending on different factors. These factors including whether the listener can see the speaker’s gestures, the topic of discussion and how the listener provides visual and verbal feedback to the speaker. I aim to develop our understanding of how we integrate gesture and speech in our interactions with others and how speakers perspective take or respond to heuristics during conversation. By studying these behaviours, we can see how speakers design their communication for their audience.

I have completed postgraduate awards in Psychological and Social science research and am currently conducting my research as part of the ESRC’s Doctoral Training Program
