Together with the award by the Master Actuary of the Prize for the best student performance in an Actuarial Science module.

This year's Annual Actuarial Student lecture will be given by Tony Hewitt and is titled "Solving Business Issues and Dilemmas".

Tony Hewitt is the Programme Director for the MSc in Actuarial Finance at Imperial College Business School.

The lecture will focus on issues where there is no ideal answer and where other factors such as moral principles come into play using short case studies on topics such as:
· The Challenger Space Shuttle Disaster
· The collapse of Lehman Brothers
· The HBOS whistle blower - Paul Moore
· The runaway trolley problem + using human organs to save lives
· NHS is not yet 24/7 - brain damaged babies
· The Enron whistle blower - Sherron Watkins
· Two cot deaths and a conviction of murder - Professor Sir Roy Meadow
· Using geriatric wards as profit centres
The objective is to encourage students to think c
ritically about real issues where there is no black and white way forward, to make reasoned decisions and be able to justify them. Come prepared not just to listen but to work in groups making decisions!!
