Martin Smit

Hello, my name is Jacobus Smit, but you can call me Martin (derived from my second name). My pronouns are he/him.

I'm currently a Teaching Fellow at the University of Warwick, where I also did my undergraduate studies in MORSE. Additionally, I am studying for the Oxford Master's in Mathematical Sciences (OMMS) at St Cross college.

I love computational mathematics and statistics, especially their applications to social sciences such as economics and sociology. My programming language of choice is Julia*, a high-level dynamic programming language which has similar syntax to Python and MATLAB but can achieve speeds similar to C/C++. I author and maintain the TernaryPlots.jl package.

My website is www.jacobussmit.com, and you can also find me on GitHub.

*That's right, you've found someone who actually uses the language rather than just has heard of it!

Student feedback and community engagement:

I was a foreign student in France for a year, I struggled with many things that French students didn't even consider. I want to make the university see the issues facing international students and act upon them.

If you are student, international or not, and feel your voice is not being heard, please contact me via email, Teams, or anonymously by this form.

Peer-reviewed work:

A Case Study of Agent-Based Models for Evolutionary Game Theory (with E. Plumb) presented to Conference of Social Simulation 2021

Just that for now, but we all have to start somewhere :)
