On Professor Lord Bhattacharyya:

He was a huge figure – the Bhattacharyya name was legendary.

The energy and sense of optimism and purpose that Kumar conveyed and embodied was infectious.

The issues that he had championed from the outset very much shaped the approach I took to industrial strategy and my job.

Kumar was very much the inspiration of the industrial strategy in many respects, because he embodied it and practised it at Warwick and internationally.

The Industrial Strategy’s final contents registered Bhattacharyya’s input in a range of areas.

On WMG:

Going round the campus, looking through the glass window on to the shop floor in the International Manufacturing Centre building, then going on to the floor and seeing everything that was being done there – that brought home to me that this was not just some kind of theoretician: he was someone who got things done.
