On October 28th to 30th, the Technology Volunteers, myself and other collaborators ran a workshop at the International Mozilla Festival 2016 in London. The workshop was part of the weekend's activities in the Youth Zone, and we were delighted to have our The Tiles for Tales workshop accepted.
The Tiles for Tales project links the craft of story telling with collaborative physical computing activities. It gives a simple introduction to circuits and control in a creative setting. Workshop participants create tiles from felt, cardboard, LEDs and a cheap wifi control board. Each tile represents a character or scene and can then be programmed over wifi using Scratch to activate the LEDs.
The workshop session was incredibly busy with young and old creating and programming their tiles. The combination of cardboard, felt and LEDs proved to be popular and the afternoon flew by quickly. There were an amazing range of tiles created, which we were invited to show at the demo party on the Sunday evening.
