What is it?

The WMG Department at the University of Warwick are offering a unique summer opportunity for Year 10 students from the West Midlands looking to pursue a future in science. This 3-day summer school in July 2022, will allow students to gain hands on experience of working directly on a variety of university research projects and provide insight into studying at a top university.

The University of Warwick is an exciting place to study and work and the WMG department uses science, engineering, technology and maths to innovate and create products that will shape the future. We work on things like self-driving cars, meta-materials, batteries for electric planes, digital devices for health, to cyber security, making materials more sustainable, and so much more.

Our Graduate Trainee Engineers want to share their expertise with you over this 3-day project-based summer school. Find out about sustainability, engineering, and the technology we are building to create a green future. You will be working in a team led by an engineer to create a demonstration of a sustainable technology.

What will you be doing?

Our summer schools focus on groups of students working on a project over the course of the event. Each project will link to an area of WMG research. Examples of projects that may be available this summer:

  • Building a model solar cell that tracks the sun across the sky
  • Building a model turbine for wind power generation
  • Designing a model vehicle to overcome obstacles and terrain
  • Automating battery manufacture
  • Creating a model smart city
  • Programming model vehicles to use sensors to drive like autonomous vehicles will in the future

You will also have a chance to hear from industry experts in engineering, who are shaping the future that we will all live in. If you want to ask an expert how to get into engineering - this is your chance!
