Factory Line Simulation

Module aims

  • To develop the individual’s understanding and disposition to use factory line simulation models in solving design and planning problems in production and test environments in industry.
  • To provide knowledge of the techniques used and the reasons for using them to solve design and planning problems in production and test environments in industry.
  • To provide opportunities to experience the application of such tools to solve problems and develop an initial capability to apply these using simplified but relevant industrial examples.
  • To help develop the individual’s ability to abstract the key features of problems and create appropriately detailed models to provide useful information for decision making.
  • To help develop the individual’s ability to present plans, justify them and make rational decisions based on evidence generated by the use of factory simulation models.

By the end of this module students will be able to:

  • Explain the role and application of factory simulation in production and test environments.
  • Construct simple simulation models using an industrial simulation tool.
  • Use a simulation model to validate and improve a basic production or test system design.
  • Apply factory simulation models to generate experimental results and analyse these in a scientific and systematic manner.
  • Present the results of simulation project by presentation and in a written report.
  • Identify and plan the execution of a work-based simulation project.
