Introduction

The module to promulgate knowledge of best practice in the management of large projects such as infrastructure, complex systems or organisational transformation projects

Objectives

On completion, students are expected to be able to:

  • Contribute to the planning and effective delivery in the environment of major projects
  • Manage the internal politics of the project environment, and respond to external political influences
  • Evaluate and address the challenges in a major project environment
  • Manage the budget and benefits realisation of a major project
  • Create, maintain, and utilise an intra-project change management process

Syllabus

  • Comprehension of the nature of major projects such as infrastructure, complex systems or organisational transformation projects versus programmes and portfolios
  • Analysis of the project lifecycle of complex business cases
  • The influences of local, national and international politics on major projects
  • Engaging with multiple stakeholders through the lifecycle of the project
  • Supply chain management in major projects
  • Management of large project budgets
  • Benefits realisation management
  • Comprehension of contracts and contract management
  • Managing significant internal project changes

Assessment

Post Module Assignment (PMA) of 5,000 words (worth 80%) and in-module assessment (worth 20%).
