Introduction

This module looks at the role and value of innovation and technology in the business. It addresses how to manage innovation and technology at both a strategic and operational level in a business. It will also consider how to select and apply appropriate frameworks and techniques for identifying, assessing and delivering technological change at an acceptable risk.

Objectives

By the end of the module, learners should be able to:

  • Explain the relationship between innovation and competitive performance and assess the business ‘conditions’ for innovation
  • Demonstrate awareness of the role of technology in contributing to and supporting innovation
  • Understand and develop a technology strategy to support robust business decision-making
  • Select and apply technology planning approaches and techniques (e.g. road mapping, technology auditing)
  • Understand and apply a holistic framework for the effective management of technologies

Assessment

Students will be required to complete a work-based Post Module Assignment (PMA) of up approximately 5,000 words (worth 90%) and an in module exercise (worth 10%).
