"I have moved up within the company during my time with WMG so hopefully the company can see the benefits."
Chris Chinnock, Controls Engineer, British Gypsum
Chris Chinnock has built up a wealth of expertise during his time with WMG. Chris is in the middle of his three-year MSc in Engineering Business Management at Warwick, backed by sponsorship from his firm, British Gypsum. He has finished all 12 modules, covering business, operational and technical areas, and will spend the final year completing a dissertation.
Chris, aged 24, travelled from his day job as bag plaster controls engineer at his Loughborough site to spend a week at Warwick for each module. He says: "While with the company I had completed an HND in electrical and electronic engineering and I was looking around for the best place to do a further degree.
"WMG seemed to have the best set-up and the most flexible programme. The company sponsored me and gave me the time required to do the modules.
"The range of modules has benefited me in many ways. There was a lot on the understanding of people and leadership skills. I now have a better understanding of business and financial issues and on the technical side I can apply what I have learned to my job.
"The WMG set-up is really good - the place where you stay is nice, the admin staff are helpful and it is really well-organised. The days were quite long but it was useful to listen to guest speakers from other companies."
Chris, who has worked for the plasterboard manufacturers for eight years, adds: "I have moved up within the company during my time with WMG so hopefully the company can see the benefits."
