"The programme as a whole has helped me to take a long-term view of the organisation and the business.”
Shane Nicholson, New Business Development Manager, BAE Systems
Shane Nicholson has found the academic support from WMG to be invaluable in his latest move up the career ladder. He joined BAE Systems in 1984 as an apprentice and after working his way through the manufacturing and engineering ranks is now a New Business Development Manager in the company.
For his current job, the modules in strategic management and innovation strategy have proved particularly useful. Shane, who is based at Brough, East Yorkshire, says: "Both modules offered a different perspective and I benefited from a lot of facilitated workshops.
"The programme as a whole has positioned me better in the company and has helped me to take a long-term view of the organisation and the business. It supports academically what I am trying to do professionally."
Time spent at the campus has also offered Shane the opportunity for 'knowledge networking' with people from other companies.
"This has been very important in that I have met people from leading-edge, blue chip organisations and I have come to understand how they position themselves too. You also get to share your own experiences.
"I found the Warwick staff to be very professional and keen for everyone to do well."
The MSc is the latest in a number of training programmes Shane has undertaken at BAE Systems, and with a supportive company behind him he is now considering the prestigious Engineering Doctorate offered by WMG.
