Steven Jones's Story

Steven Jones"I really enjoyed my experiences at Warwick. I met some great and talented people and had fun along the way. I can honestly say I would love to go back and do it all over again"
Steven Jones, Competence and Learning Manager, Airbus

I have been with Airbus for 18 years, having started my career as an Apprentice Aircraft Fitter. After completing my apprenticeship I went on to obtain an ONC in Aeronautical Engineering, an HNC in Business Studies, and a BA (Hons) in Business Studies. I am now a Competence and Learning Manager, responsible for developing the competence and learning of 5000 employees within the Broughton plant.

I chose to do an MSc after a conversation with a colleague who was on the programme at the time. I had been away from higher education for four years and was keen to take my development to the next level. Airbus is a great company to work for and there are many opportunities to develop within the company, but I wanted to study outside of the organisation in order to meet people from different industries and share knowledge and experiences with them. I am thankful to Airbus for supporting my studies and I graduated with my MSc in Engineering Business Management from WMG in 2014.

I really enjoyed my experiences at Warwick. I met some great and talented people and had fun along the way. I liked the flexibility of the programme and was able to choose modules that I found relevant to my own personal development and roles within Airbus. I particularly enjoyed the 'Improving Personal Performance' and 'Leadership' modules.

My advice for people studying an MSc at WMG whilst working is to be prepared to put the hours in, to challenge and to be challenged, to make the effort to meet people from different backgrounds, share and receive knowledge and most importantly to enjoy yourself.

Having completed my MSc at Warwick I can honestly say I would love to go back and do it all over again!
