Manufacturing Process Capability (MAPC)



This module will provide participants with a working knowledge of process capability and control and its application within a manufacturing environment to improve yields and reduce costs.


Objectives: On completion, the participant will be able to: 

  1. Understand and use basic mathematical and statistical techniques in the analysis of variation in the manufacturing process.

  2. Calculate and present measures of process capability for a defined process

  3. Collect analyse and present data to drive manufacturing process improvement

  4. Understand manufacturing process capability approaches used within different applications

  5. Establish, use and maintain spc charts as applicable to their business (Achieved post assignment)



  1. Introduction to variation using practical exercises

  2. Understanding the effect of variation on manufacturing processes

  3. Calculation of Normal distribution and measure dispersion (standard deviation)

  4. Company based case studies (delivery and discussion)

  5. Statistical data collection and presentation for process improvement

  6. Presentation of measures of Process Capability Cp and Cpk

  7. Assignment briefing

Pre-requisite Knowledge


You should be able to do basic arithmetic and to use formulae. (Source of support is identified on a separate page attached to this outline)
