Simulation of Production Systems (SIM)

This module provides an appreciation of the range of techniques, applications and benefits of computer simulation of production systems. This management tool is rapidly becoming an indispensable aid to decision-making in complex investment and operational situations. The module includes a high percentage of hands-on, case study and demonstration sessions using four different types of simulation and packages. The programme should be of value to both end users of simulation studies and personnel wishing to develop expertise in simulation techniques.

Objectives:

On completion, the participant will be:

  1. Identifying where and how simulation can benefit their organisation and its role in design, planning and control of production systems
  2. Planning and managing the successful introduction of simulation to their companies
  3. Assessing commercially available packages in relation to particular requirements
  4. Developing simple simulation models of their own

Contents:

  1. Methodology and Modelling
  2. Simulation by Hand
  3. Computer Modelling
  4. Simulation in Operational Planning and Control
  5. Alternative Approaches to Simulation
  6. Experimentation
  7. Putting Simulation into Practice

Duration:
