Supply Chain Strategy

INTRODUCTION:

The module examines the concepts, principles, and key tools and techniques associated with supply chain management strategy development. In particular the module explores models and frameworks demonstrating the breadth of scope of supply chain management and explores their application to develop appropriate supply chain strategies in response to business and customer needs. It allows participants, through facilitated workshop sessions, to structure and clarify understanding by applying learning to their own supply chain environment, particularly exploring issues of global, integrated supply chain management.

The module is followed by an assessed assignment whereby the participants are required to demonstrate their achievement of the specific learning outcomes by application of module input to a workplace based scenario.

The module will contribute directly to equipping the participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to lead within a process based industry.

OBJECTIVES: On completion of this module participants are able to:

  1. Critically discuss integrated supply chain concepts and frameworks for strategic thinking
  2. Apply appropriately the elements of effective supply chain design
  3. Critically evaluate and adopt appropriately, the elements of good practice in the application of different supply chain process techniques
  4. Determine and develop appropriate supply chain relationships
  5. Identify, select and apply appropriately the tools, techniques and measures used to develop and manage performance in an integrated supply chain
  6. Generate thinking to allow the relevant application of module input to the particular business need
  7. In addition, the module is designed to further develop the participants’ key transferable skills and generic-academic capabilities in the following areas:
  • Verbal communication skills
  • Ability to learn
  • Written communication skills
  • Ability for critical evaluation and analysis
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
