EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training
Sustainable Materials and Manufacturing
The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Sustainable Materials and Manufacturing is a partnership between the Universities of Warwick, Exeter and Cranfield, with support from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and partner companies.
The Centre offers an EngD International qualification in Sustainable Materials and Manufacturing and will address industry-driven research challenges including, for example: establishing natural or recovered materials as feed-stocks, reducing process inputs and outputs without compromising performance or economic viability, extracting high value materials from waste streams, and ultimately establishing economic and environmental sustainability.
The Centre is also supported by a large number of international academic partners including Monash University in Australia, MPurdue (USA), Fribourg (Switzerland), Kyoto (Japan), IIT Bangalore (India), Queensland (Australia), British Columbia and McGill (Canada), and Jonköping (Sweden).
EngD International Qualification
As a 'Research Engineer', you will be working on a challenge submitted by one of our partner companies, who will act as your sponsor for the duration of the programme. Each project will be based at a 'home' University (either Warwick, Exeter of Cranfield), meaning you will split your time between the home institution and your sponsoring company, as well as visiting the other partner institutions. You will also undertake an international placement with one of our overseas partners (listed above), to give you the broadest possible range of experiences.
The EngD International programme combines taught modules at each of the three partner Universities to bring students up to best industrial practice, with original research based on real world problems as well as group projects, conference attendance and business and academic networking. By applying rigorous analysis, innovative thinking and good management practice you will stand out above your competitors.
As part of this programme you will undertake an embedded MSc in Sustainable Materials and Manufacturing.
You will work with supervisors who have both academic and industry expertise and experience.
