Railway Infrastructure - Part 1 (Civil & Mechanical)

Managing, organising and designing rail infrastructure, without sacrificing life cycle cost and operational longevity, is a major challenge in the quality of rail service.

This module will aim to develop your understanding of the importance of the sensitivity of the vehicle track interface, and the ability to solve railway infrastructure problems. You will build your understanding of different components of the track infrastructure, such as the rails, tunnels, bridges, embankments and ballast. You will also develop your understanding of issues behind the durability and failure mechanisms of the infrastructure.
