Building your Professional Network
In order to give you as much opportunity as possible to expand your professional network, the WMG Student Experience team put on a variety of events that will allow you to connect with potential employers.
FutureFest is WMG’s careers fair, held every year and attended by a host of employers. It’s a fantastic opportunity for students to network with potential employers, learn about the opportunities they have on offer and strengthen commercial awareness on a range of sectors.
In February 2020, our students met representatives from companies such as Airbus, Jaguar Land Rover, Rolls-Royce, Hermes, Alten and Fujitsu Laboratories Europe on campus at the University of Warwick. The event was also attended by several SMEs, one of which saying that “[WMG] students were very informed, which was very impressive as we are a niche industry.” This is testament to the skillset that our students can build throughout their time with us and the direct applicability of what the WMG Student Experience team can teach you. In February 2021, FutureFest went digital for the first time, in line with Government restrictions. This four-day event was attended by a range of amazing employers including, Amazon; SOTI; ViVO Mobile; Atkins; Airbus; Aon; Jaguar Land Rover; Tata and many more. Students had the chance to hear from, and network with, a range of representatives from these companies.
Throughout the year as a WMG MSc student, you will have the opportunity to attend and engage with a wealth of careers-focused events, such as bespoke workshops, guest speakers and networking opportunities. ‘Meet the Alumni: Stories from WMG Alumni’ events are some of our most popular sessions and give you an opportunity to speak to former students and find out where their courses have taken them.
"It is always amazing to work with students from WMG – their enthusiasm, professionalism and zest for learning is unmatchable. We have always seen students from WMG come forward with ideas, ready and eager to learn and confident. It truly is a reflection of the teaching and the courses that make the students top talent.”

Enhancing your Skills
Beyond the skills that you will learn on your Master’s modules, there will be a varied offer of workshops to broaden your skillset, covering areas such networking skills, building your personal brand, time management, developing and using LinkedIn and more. Moreover, on completion of each of the four programmes mentioned below you will receive a certificate, giving you a tangible addition to your CV that you can use to show employers your dedication to self-improvement.
The WMG Student Experience team work in close collaboration with the Student Opportunity team, Students’ Union societies and the Immigration team in order to provide you with as rich and fulfilling a year as possible.
Featured activity: Video interview competition
With almost half of surveyed employers saying that they use video interviews as part of their recruitment process (TargetJobs, 2018), familiarising yourself with the process and receiving feedback through this event is a fantastic opportunity to prepare you for job applications after you graduate. A member of Tata Consultancy’s Talent Acquisition team joined the judging panel for our most recent video interview competition and the students who submitted the best three videos received Amazon Vouchers as prizes.
“All participants received personalised and detailed professional feedback from three expert judges, which included comments on body language, tone of voice, answers provided, and facial expressions.”
Hend Elnaghy, Supply Chain and Logistics Management Student (19/20)
WMG Skills+ and Warwick Skills Portfolio Award
During your time at WMG, you will have access to the WMG Skills+ programme and The Warwick Skills Portfolio Award (WSPA): through these you will be able select a set of core employability skills to develop throughout the year, such as teamwork, communication and problem solving. Through workshops and self-reflection, the courses will teach you how to evidence and articulate these skills and make them an asset to your future applications (both in writing and face-to-face), strengthening your abilities at several stages of the job application process.
"I would highly recommend the Skills+ course to future WMG students, as it allows you to self-assess different sets of personal development and communication skills at your own pace. For example, I was able to analyse and reflect on the importance of intellectual flexibility through a series of interactive workshops and activities where I received immediate feedback.”
Vasu Sharma, MSc Engineering Business Management Student (19/20)
Intercultural Training Programme
The Intercultural Training Programme is another fantastic resource available to you; through this course you will not only develop your understanding of culture and learn about working in intercultural environments, but you will also learn how to articulate and market your intercultural awareness and skills to employers. Being a department with students from over 60 nationalities, your time at WMG is a perfect opportunity to hone these skills and enhance your global outlook.
You’ll have access to a plethora of online content, support and assistance. This includes the WMG Virtual Careers Programme, providing modules that cover elements such as careers confidence, researching UK employers, applying for jobs and how to perform during interviews and assessment centres, all accompanied by on-demand resources like videos and self-reflection exercises. You'll also be able to visit the Inside Industry webpages to gain access to relevant exhibitions and trade shows, webinars, podcasts, virtual tours and optional extra-curricular activities for you to participate in during your spare time (all events are open and available to all WMG Full-Time Master's students).
