Overview

Our MSc in e-Business Management is designed for people looking to operate effectively in the e-business environment and to manage or lead either the transformation of existing business processes or the creation of new e-business activity.

This degree will equip you with the techniques to manage the strategic development of e-business based organisations and appropriate e-business technologies. You’ll develop the skills and knowledge to evaluate, manage, and improve the operational functions of an organisation and to apply the concepts of systems integration to the design and development of products and services through market analysis.

MSc e-Business Management Specialisms

With the exponential growth in e-Business activity worldwide, there is great demand for e-Business professionals who bring particular specialised knowledge and skills. This MSc, therefore, allows you to select from one of five specialisms, providing you with a deeper understanding of one of the key areas of e-Business deployments and tailoring your modules in line with your future career path.

Course content

Specialisms within our MSc e-Business Management

Our five specialisms enable students to select a defined module route through the e-Business Management course. Please note that specialism titles will not be detailed on the degree certificate. The course name for all pathways is MSc e-Business Management. Each of the specialisms brings a different focus to e-Business Management. See the specialism pages below for an overview, to see how these align with your career objectives and intended learning outcomes.

*Supersedes the 2021 specialism 'Digital Consultancy and Entrepreneurship' having merged in the content from our MSc in International Technology Management.


Modules

Students study 8 modules (120 CATS) as part of this MSc programme. There are two common modules for all students across the e-Business Management MSc:

1) e-Business Fundamentals

2) Study, Professional and Analytical Skills (common across most MSc programmes in the WMG department)

All other modules are specific to the specialism you select and are not interchangeable.

The research element of your course is 60 CATS (600 hours) and should focus on an area of e-Business relevant to your specialism. See each specialism page for further information.

Research project

The research element is one-third of your final grade and will support you in developing your personal research skills. Depending on the pathway that you select, you project should focus on management or technology-related issues in companies involved in e-Commerce; digital marketing; digital and data science; digital innovation or digital consultancy.

Recent projects have covered areas such as:

  • Investigation of virtual communities for competitive advantage
  • Measuring success for business websites
  • Technical computing projects/systems design
  • The impact of mass-customisation in the online environment
  • Comparison of effectiveness of online advertising to traditional media
  • ERP implementation in SMEs

Work on your project runs concurrently with your module work. In addition to face-to-face meetings, supervisors may expect you to use online collaborative tools to manage and monitor your progress.

You are expected to devote an appropriate portion of your time and intellectual effort to the project during the course i.e. approximately 600 hours or 4 months study.


Learning style

The taught component of the course is a mixture of lectures, seminars, syndicate/group work, practicals, online learning and forum activities. Module leaders are experts in their fields and are supported by external speakers working in organisations at the forefront of their fields.

The taught component of the course is assessed primarily through written assignments, although some modules include assessed in-module exercises. There are no written exams.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

In order to meet our academic entry requirement, you should have obtained the minimum of a UK 2:1 undergraduate degree (or equivalent).

Candidates with a UK 2:2 (or equivalent) may be accepted upon demonstration of relevant professional experience.

We accept students from a wide range of academic disciplines onto the MSc in E-Business Management, including (but not exclusively) IT, Media, Communications, Business, Marketing, Data Science, Technology. Through your Statement of Purpose, we will review your rationale for selecting this course, and how you see it helping you to achieve your career goals. If these align with what the course will provide, and if you have sufficiently strong academic credentials, you will be deemed suitable for admission to the course.

English language

If you are a non-native English speaker, we need to confirm that your English language competency is sufficiently good for you to get the most out of your Master's study. You therefore require you to take a SELT (Secure English Language Test) and submit your results as one of your academic requirements. If you are taking an IELTS test, we require a score of 6.5 (with no less than 6.0 in any one component). What you will need to provide
  • A completed application form and £60 application fee.
  • A Personal Statement which can be included in the online application.
  • A scan of your transcript (marksheet). If you are still studying, please send us your transcripts to date. NB: if you are made an offer, we will then require you to upload your online degree transcripts and certificate in order to clear your conditions.
  • English language test result (if applicable) - this can be submitted after you have an offer.
  • One reference. If you completed studies less than 2 years ago, this should be an academic reference. If you graduated more than 2 years ago, we will require a professional reference. We contact your referee directly, so please include their valid professional email address on your application form.
  • Candidates with professional experience should include their CV with their application.

Fees and funding

Tuition fees

The tuition fee for 2022 entry is £16,338 for Home students and £29,950 for International students.

If you are successful in receiving an offer, a deposit payment is required in order to secure your place on the course. Further information about deposits will be communicated to you on receipt of your offer. You can also find more information about tuition fee deposits on our web page. Your remaining tuition fee is then payable at the start of the academic year, or in instalments. For information about how to pay your tuition fees, please review the University's finance web pages.


WMG Excellence Scholarships

WMG Excellence Scholarships are merit-based awards, available on a competitive basis. Awards range from 10% to 50% tuition fee discount.

Throughout the year, we also host activities and events that will help you to understand potential career pathways including; seminars; external speakers; industrial visits; alumni talks and more. We encourage our students to make the most of the opportunities available to learn about career options for the future.

Warwick Careers Service

The University of Warwick's Careers Service offers specific careers support to WMG students, through a dedicated Careers Advisor, Siobhan Qadir. The service provides practical workshops and 1-1 appointments for our students covering many aspects of career choice and development, including: how to build a strong CV and write job applications; effective career planning and guidance; and how to enhance your interview and networking skills.

Additionally, each year, employers have a presence on campus, with careers fairs, presentations and guest lectures happening on a regular basis; meaning you'll have lots of exposure to potential employers.

There are also various events run throughout the year to develop your skillset and teach you how to market this to employers. Individual workshops are hosted on a variety of topics, such as networking and time management. Or for those interested in a more complete programme, you can partake in awards such as WMG Skills+ to develop your core employability skills, or the Intercultural Training Programme to strengthen your intercultural awareness. In addition, there is a wealth of online material available to help strengthen your industrial knowledge and build on employability skills, such as the WMG Virtual Careers Programme.
