The Healthcare Operational Management (HOM) programme has been designed to fulfil the specific needs and requirements of those interested in a management or leadership role within the complex health service sector. It is suitable for students from a range of academic backgrounds within engineering, business, and sciences. Whilst no previous healthcare background is required, the course will appeal to clinically qualified students looking to move into health systems modelling, e-health, health or medical informatics.

On completion, successful candidates will be able to demonstrate:

  • Systematic understanding of the fundamentals of healthcare operational management sufficient to
  • permit the study of the current literature, identification of gaps in information, and engagement in discussion with peers
  • Critically evaluate issues of design, economics, and ethical considerations surrounding the day-to-day management of healthcare service delivery systems.
  • Critically appreciate different theoretical and evidence frameworks that oversee the organization of health service systems and their effects on operational management structures.
