Exam Board (2014-2019)

NOTE - these regulations apply to Candidates who registered for their course from the 2014/15 academic year (i.e. on or after 1 August 2014). For those who registered before that date, see Exam Board (Pre-2013 entry) for commencement before 1 August 2013 or Exam Board (2013 only) for commencement 1 August 2013 - 31 July 2014

The award of degrees is made by the University Senate upon recommendations made by Boards of Examiners, which consists of members of staff of WMG and an External Examiner - a senior academic from another institution. The Boards of Examiners meet twice a year, in November and May (with re-sits being considered at the subsequent Exam Board). These Boards will consider the course work and project performance of all the candidates, together with any other information which is relevant to their decision making process. They will then make recommendations to the University Senate regarding the following awards:

MSc 

For Cyber Security Engineering and Healthcare Operations Management ONLY:

  • Complete at least 120 credits worth of modules, which must include the specified core modules for the relevant degree. Pass at least 90 credits worth of modules (including all core modules) with a mark of at least 50%; a further 30 credits worth of failed modules may be accepted for the MSc, providing they achieved a mark of at least 40%

AND

  • Pass the 60 credit project with a pass mark of at least 50% (oral and dissertation elements must both be passed)

OR for Management for Business Excellence ONLY:

  • Pass at least 90 credits worth of modules, which must include the specified core modules for the relevant degree.

AND

  • Pass the 90 credit project with a pass mark of at least 50% (oral and dissertation elements must both be passed)

OR for all other degrees:

  • Complete at least 90 credits worth of modules, which should include the specified core modules for the relevant degree. Pass at least 60 credits worth of modules (including all essential core modules) with a mark of at least 50%; a further 30 credits worth of failed modules may be accepted for the MSc, providing they achieved a mark of at least 40%

AND

  • Pass the 90 credit project with a pass mark of at least 50% (oral and dissertation elements must both be passed)
MSc with Distinction

For Cyber Security Engineering and Healthcare Operations Management ONLY:

  • Pass all modules (120 credits) with a mark of at least 50%, the 60 credit project with a mark of at least 65% and with an overall (weighted) average of 70%.

OR for Management for Business Excellence ONLY:

  • Pass all modules (90 credits) and pass the project with a mark of at least 70%

OR for all other degrees:

  • Pass all modules (90 credits) with a mark of at least 50%, the 90 credit project with a mark of at least 65% and with an overall (weighted) average of 70%.

MSc with Merit

For Cyber Security Engineering and Healthcare Operations Management ONLY:

  • Pass all modules (120 credits) with a mark of at least 50%, the 60 credit project with a mark of at least 60% and with an overall (weighted) average of 60%.

OR for Management for Business Excellence ONLY:

  • Pass all modules (90 credits) and pass the project with a mark of at least 60%

OR for all other degrees:

  • Pass all modules (90 credits) with a mark of at least 50%, the 90 credit project with a mark of at least 60% and with an overall (weighted) average of 60%.
Postgraduate Diploma 
  • Complete at least 60 credits worth of modules (relevant to the degree), of which at least 30 credits are passed with a mark of at least 50% PLUS a 60 credit Diploma project. A further 30 credits worth of failed modules may be accepted for the Postgraduate Diploma, provided they achieved a mark of at least 40%

OR

  • Complete at least 120 credits worth of modules relevant to the degree and pass at least 90 credits worth (including all essential core modules) with a mark of at least 50%; a further 30 credits worth of failed modules may be accepted for the Postgraduate Diploma, provided they achieved a mark of at least 40%
This qualification is also available with Distinction (weighted average of 70% over 120 passed credits) and with Merit (weighted average of at least 60% over 120 passed credits)
Postgraduate Certificate 
  • Complete and pass at least 60 credits worth of modules relevant to the degree
This qualification is also available with Distinction (weighted average of 70% over 60 passed credits) and with Merit (weighted average of at least 60% over 60 passed credits)
Postgraduate Award 
  • Complete and pass at least 30 credits worth of modules relevant to the degree
This qualification is also available with Distinction (weighted average of 70% over 30 passed credits) and with Merit (weighted average of at least 60% over 30 passed credits)
Fail 
  • None of the above
