Non-Disclosure Agreements

Confidentiality of Company Data

Some data that you will have access to (either from within WMG or from external companies) may be confidential, and students must be careful to not share any sensitive information/ data more widely than within your dissertation. What will be shared in your dissertation must also be agreed by the relevant people, usually by way of them completing a consent form (see main ethics page). On most occasions confidential company data will not be shared directly with students, and sometimes students can be given ‘dummy’ data as an alternative, or partial data (the non-sensitive data) to work on for their dissertation.

Agreements/contracts

There may be occasions when students are required to view, collect or analyse strictly confidential data where a non-disclosure agreement (sometimes called a confidentiality agreement) may become necessary. Students should never sign a form that they do not understand, and in most cases will only be asked to sign the University standard non-disclosure agreement (NDA) below.
If you are asked by a company to sign any sort of contract agreement, please discuss this first with your dissertation supervisor and/ or the MSc projects Manager (wmg-ft-projects@warwick.ac.uk). Please avoid signing a company NDA and instead ask them to sign the University standard NDA (below) in the first instance.
The University standard NDA usually needs to be signed by the University, your dissertation supervisor and yourself, but please first make sure you understand its contents before signing it. If you are at all unsure about whether you should sign any type of contract or agreement, please talk to a member of staff before doing so.
