Manufacturing Technology

INTRODUCTION

Manufacturing technology is of paramount importance as no manufacturing industry can exist without it. Modern manufacturing technology entails a diverse range of disciplines and their interaction including Computer Aided Design and Manufacture, Materials, Processes, and Manufacturing Automation. This course module aims to introduce these subject areas in broad terms with a view to their applications in manufacturing industry. The course module is augmented by laboratory demos, practical hands-on sessions and a case study.

OBJECTIVES

On successful completion participants will be able to:

  • Recognise the significance of Manufacturing Technology in the context of Engineering Business Management
  • Recognise and contrast various materials and manufacturing processes that are most commonly used in manufacturing industry
  • Apply material and process selection concepts to enable a more scientific approach to material and process selection decisions
  • Recognise concepts and use of Computer Aided Design & Manufacture and their implications for successful manufacture
  • Recognise the use and significance of Automation and Robotics in manufacture
