INTRODUCTION

Over the last few years Supply Chain collaborative principles have enabled companies to gain a competitive edge. These principles, more effectively exploited can continue to deliver benefit but the advent of complex computer-based systems for managing internal and external logistics (e.g. Enterprise Resource Planning Systems) has introduced new opportunities and new threats in the supply chain. At the same time customers are becoming more demanding, wanting the supply of a complex set of services rather than a single product. These changes increase the need for companies not only to collaborate with members of their supply chain but also to enhance levels of communication and customer service. In this environment the appropriate use of supply chain integration becomes a vital ingredient in corporate success.

OBJECTIVES

On completing this module successful participants will be able to:

  • Appreciate the appropriate application of e supply chain process models for the effective supply of different products and services, throughout their life-cycle.
  • Identify supply chain integration requirements for the effective coordination of customers and suppliers.
  • Identify the management approaches, planning systems, cultural requirements, relationships and IT support needed for effective supply chain integration.
  • Appreciate the improvement opportunities and threats presented by the alignment of the complete supply chain with final customer requirements.
