DISCONTINUED: Simulation of Operations

Simulation of Operations has been discontinued. This module is not currently being run on any WMG programme.

INTRODUCTION

This course module provides an appreciation of the range of techniques, applications and benefits of computer simulation of business systems1. This management tool has become an indispensable aid to decision-making in complex investment and operational situations. The course module includes a high percentage of hands-on, case study and demonstration sessions. The programme should be of value to both end users of simulation studies, personnel wishing to develop expertise in simulation techniques as well as managers needing to understand its application.

OBJECTIVES

On completion, participants will be capable of:

  • Identifying where and how simulation can benefit an organisation and its role in design, planning and control of production systems.
  • Planning and managing the successful introduction of simulation to their companies.
  • Developing simple simulation models of their own.
  • Interpreting the results of a simulation using statistical methods.

CONTENTS

  • Methodology and Modelling.
  • Simulation by Hand.
  • Computer Modelling.
  • Analysis of Results
  • Alternative Approaches to Simulation.
  • Experimentation.
  • Putting Simulation into Practice.
