The Coventry VLR (Very Light Rail) project is a research and development programme to develop a novel, low-cost rail-based public transport system for operation within the city of Coventry. The programme is a collaboration between WMG (University of Warwick), Coventry City Council (CCC) and Transport for West Midlands (TfWM). The overall programme is conceived to deliver an affordable rail based system, capable of on-and off-street running, marketable to the general public, and have light-weight self-propelled vehicles which are emissions free at the point of use.
The vision is for an innovative trackform which is installed on existing road sub-structures hence reducing earthwork costs, eliminating utilities diversions and minimising disruption to the locality during on-site installation thus providing a step-change in light-rail installation costs.
The University of Warwick intends to use a negotiated procurement procedure to engage partners for a R&D project aiming to develop this innovative trackform for the Coventry light rail scheme. The supplier day is intended to deliver further detailed information on the project and serve as a platform where potential partnerships can be formed.
This is an opportunity to learn more about the Coventry Very Light Rail track R&D project and the tender. Lunch will be provided. To reserve your place please complete the form below.
