WMG welcomes the Lieutenant Governor of the State of Michigan

Professor Lord Bhattacharyya with Lieutenant Governor Brian CalleyWMG was delighted to welcome Brian Calley, Lieutenant Governor of the State of Michigan, today.

The Lieutenant Governor, who is leading a delegation of state and business leaders on a trade mission to the UK and Ireland, was keen to learn more about how WMG works side-by-side with industry to deliver innovative new products and processes. After meeting with Professor Lord Bhattacharyya, the delegation were given a tour of WMG’s world-class research and development facilities, including the International Manufacturing Centre and the Energy Innovation Centre.

The Lieutenant Governor learned more about our cutting edge research and development, including the work of the WMG centre High Value Manufacturing Catapult, in particular, our Intelligent Vehicles research, including our state-of-the-art ‘3xDInside the 3xD Simulator for Intelligent Vehicles Simulator for Intelligent Vehicles’ and our work with local partner RDM to test driverless pods. This was an area of particular interest to the delegation as the University of Michigan is home to MCity, a proving ground built specifically for driverless car technology.

Following the tour, the Lieutenant Governor and Professor Lord Bhattacharyya were joined by representatives from WMG’s partners in the region for an industrial roundtable, where they discussed the challenges that both SMEs and global companies face, and what they saw as the opportunities for manufacturing in the immediate future.

Commenting on the visit, Professor Lord Bhattacharyya said: “It was a great pleasure to meet with the Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley attends round table discussion at WMGLieutenant Governor and share best practice, and for the delegation to see first-hand the projects we are working on.”

Lieutenant Governor said “We have a great opportunity during our visit to further advance and collaborate in the aerospace sector, technologies in manufacturing and much more. I look forward to continuing the conversation following our visit.”
