WMG is looking to make a number of key academic appointments across its full range of research activities in Digital Technologies, Materials and Manufacturing and Operations and Business Management, in order to enhance and expand its capabilities in these developing areas.

The new posts cover a range of research, teaching and knowledge transfer activities, working with partners in diverse business sectors such as automotive, aerospace and defence, digital, healthcare, finance, energy and pharmaceuticals.

The Group are currently looking for world class individuals who want to make a real impact in their field. The following roles are available:

• Jaguar Land Rover Chair in Simulation of Complex Hybrid and Electric Powertrain Systems 
• Royal Academy of Engineering / TATA Steel Research Chair in Low Carbon Materials Technologies
• Professor of Innovative Manufacturing
• Professor of Cyber Security
• Associate Professor in Service Systems
• Associate / Assistant Professor in Tropical Diagnostics (in collaboration with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine)

Other key academic positions in Cyber Security, Digital Product Lifecycle Management, Hybrid and Electric Vehicles and Nanocomposites will also be announced shortly.

The University of Warwick has joined forces with NHS West Midlands to create the new Institute of Digital Healthcare, a collaboration aimed at improving people’s health and wellbeing through the use of innovative technologies.

The Institute of Digital Healthcare is a five-year programme based in the new International Digital Laboratory, and includes as founding partners Warwick Manufacturing Group, Warwick Medical School and NHS West Midlands.

By working with both private and public sector organisations, the Institute will deliver real and lasting benefits to patients and the public through the application of innovative digital solutions to a wide range of healthcare scenarios.

WMG today formed the final lap of a tour by The Rt Hon Dr Vince Cable MP, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills and President of the Board of Trade, of three literal engines of economic growth in the Midlands.

The focus of Dr Cable's visit to WMG was to learn about its industrial collaborations and to identify opportunities for economic growth.

In just three hours Dr Cable experienced three very different cars produced or developed in the Midlands. After visits to see two other cars this morning he arrived at WMG’s International Manufacturing Centre to tour the work within it and WMG’s International Digital Laboratory.

WMG AND SIEMENS PLM SIGN £22 MILLION SOFTWARE DEAL FOR NEW DIGITAL LABDigital Laboratory will provide software to inspire British innovation and drive take-up of manufacturing careers PLANO, Texas and WARWICK/CAMBERLEY, UK, July 9, 2008 – Siemens PLM Software, a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, and WMG, the international research and education group at the University of Warwick, today announced a deal to provide access to over £22 million of software to researchers, students and businesses using the new Warwick Digital Laboratory. Although Siemens globally has entered into similar arrangements with top universities in the USA and China, this is the only deal of this size ever to be struck with a UK university.

It was announced today, at the Festival of Innovation, that Health Tech, the programme which helps West Midlands SMEs to innovate new medical & healthcare products and diversify into the healthcare sector, has received a £1.5m injection to expand and extend its work through to the end of 2008.

The Health Tech programme is run by WMG at the University of Warwick and is supported by a European Regional Development Fund grant through the Government Office for the West Midlands to enable it to provide 5 days of free assistance to its client SMEs in geographic areas of greatest need for development.

Professor Darek Ceglarek, Director of Digital Product Lifecycle Management at WMG, has recently chaired some of the most influential international events in his field.

He has also been asked to represent the UK on the ManuFUTURE high level group.
