Title: "Aluminium Alloys and Defects" Dr. Prakash Srirangam is currently working as an Associate Professor in WMG at the University of Warwick, UK. He completed his M. Tech in Metallurgical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology-Varanasi and PhD (Metallurgy) from McMaster University, Canada. After completion of his PhD, he pursued his postdoctoral research fellow positions at Queens University, Kingston, Canada and University of Manchester, UK before taking up the faculty position at WMG in 2014. His research interests are in aluminium alloys, steels, dissimilar metals joining and advanced materials characterisation. His work has been published extensively in various international peer reviewed journals and he has delivered key-note and invited talks in International Conferences. In this talk, Prakash is going to present his research activities in aluminium alloys, recycling and characterisation. |

Title: “Energy Efficient Ceramic Processing” Claire Dancer is an Associate Professor at WMG, University of Warwick. She holds a DPhil in Materials from the University of Oxford, and an MSci in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge. She joined WMG in 2013 as an Assistant Professor. Her research interests focus on processing routes for ceramic materials, with a particular interest in lowering energy use by using tailored additives, reducing temperatures, shortening firing durations, and developing routes for well-dispersed ceramic-polymer composites. An additional interest lies in finding processing routes which allow structures containing materials with dissimilar properties to be processed simultaneously, which is a key consideration in the more widespread use of ceramic materials. Claire has worked on projects for ceramic materials in a wide range of applications including ceramic armour, electromagnetic metamaterials, superconducting magnets, acoustic insulation, and solid-state battery electrodes and electrolytes. In this session Claire will discuss how ceramic materials can be made in more energy efficient ways, illustrated with examples from her group’s current and previous research. |
