Manufacturing Wiring Harnesses and Electronic Devices with 3D Printing

The UK’s high-value manufacturing sector is unique and innovative, and is growing all the time. Although digital technologies are increasingly being adopted, key manufacturing processes are still completed manually, slowing production times and keeping costs high. A prime example of this is in the assembly and production of wiring harnesses and electronic devices.

The WMG SME Group and the KTN Additive Manufacturing Special Interest Group (SIG) are hosting this half-day interactive event to discuss the disruptive potential of 3D printing in the manufacture of wiring harnesses and electronic devices.

Presentations will showcase examples of current Innovate UK-funded collaborative projects into the flexible digital manufacture of functional 3D structures with electrical or electronic functionality. These projects demonstrate applications including wiring harnesses and 3D-printed structures with integrated electronics.

This will be followed by a discussion and hands-on workshop around what is possible now, and what could be possible soon. Our goal is to gain industry insight, gauge interest and build consortia for the next round of grant-funded industrial research to bring these technologies closer to commercialisation.
