New partnership to develop insurance for AI risks
WMG, University of Warwick is part of a unique £2m academic-industry partnership to develop novel methods to understand, measure, and ultimately insure against risk associated with the commercial application of artificial intelligence.
The UKRI Prosperity Partnership ‘AI2: Assurance and Insurance for Artificial Intelligence’Link opens in a new window, led by the University of Edinburgh, alongside insurance group AXA, WMG and the University of Oxford, will build an implementable AI assurance framework that enables auditing of algorithmic systems across metrics such as model accuracy, bias and privacy.
The partnership will seek to tackle key industry challenges in areas from drug manufacturing and artificial intelligence (AI) to cybersecurity.
Researchers at WMG will be developing techniques to assure the AI underpinning national transport, manufacturing and energy infrastructure, and exploring how such assurances can impact AI insurance premiums.

New Industrial Strategy welcomed by experts
Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) recognised as focus for battery innovation to improve UK economic resilience
Experts at the University of Warwick welcome the government’s new Industrial Strategy, announced today.
“The industrial strategy will be welcomed our partners in manufacturing,” said Greg Clark, Executive Chair of Warwick Innovation District*. “In having the confidence to choose particular sectors in which to invest over the long-term, the strategy sets out a roadmap that will secure the future of industries vital to the UK economy. We look forward to playing our part, here at the University of Warwick, in supporting its successful implementation.”
Accelerating EV transition
Representatives from WMG were pleased to share their expertise at a two-day workshop in Indonesia, addressing the country’s key challenges in adopting electric vehicles.
The workshop, entitled “Sustainable Transportation: Policy Recommendations for the Acceleration of Electric Vehicles Adoption Addressing Environmental and Societal Challenges,” explored opportunities for collaboration between the UK and Indonesia in developing policies and technologies for sustainable transportation.
Key discussion points included mapping stakeholder needs, analysing policy gaps, sharing international best practices, and drafting policy recommendations for a sustainable EV ecosystem.
UK-India trade deal – expert comment
Commenting on the UK-India trade deal, Professor Robin ClarkLink opens in a new window, Dean of WMG, said:

Real world transport trials to help parcel deliveries go green
WMG was pleased to welcome Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, and representatives from the Department of Transport and the logistics industry, on to campus to hear more about its Last Mile Logistics Project.
The Last Mile Logistics Project is a partnership between WMG and Transport for West MidlandsLink opens in a new window (TfWM), and is funded by the West Midlands Innovation AcceleratorLink opens in a new window.
As part of the project, the University of Warwick campus is being used as a testbed for a small fleet of low-speed electric delivery vehicles to demonstrate how they can help the UK reach Net Zero, while cutting congestion and improving air quality.
