WMG academics among the world's top 2% of scientists
Over a dozen researchers and engineers from WMG, University of Warwick, have been recognised in the 2025 Stanford-Elsevier Top 2% Scientists List for their cutting-edge scientific contributions.
Compiled by Stanford UniversityLink opens in a new window and ElsevierLink opens in a new window to celebrate research excellence across 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields, the prestigious list is based on Scopus data and rigorous citation indicators. It ranks over 100,000 of the world’s best academics by research influence and international visibility.
New to the list from WMG this year are Dr Anup Barai, Associate Professor; Dr Gregory Epiphaniou, Associate Professor of Cyber Security Engineering; and two associate professors of battery modelling: Dr Mona Faraji Niri and Dr Haodong Chen.
Dr Faraji Niri is one of only two female academics from WMG to be featured in 2025. She joins Chaoying Wan, Professor of Polymer Nanocomposites, whose academic prowess has been recognised every year since the list’s launch in 2020.
Reflecting on her achievement, Dr Faraji Niri said: “I’m excited that my research at the intersection of battery systems, electrification, and AI has brought me this recognition.
"Appearing on the 2025 Stanford-Elsevier's Top 2% Scientists List as one of only a few female WMG academics is an honour and testament to the impact of my research over the years.”
Amongst the long-standing members of the list from WMG is Ton Peijs, Professor of Polymer Processes and Head of the Centre for Polymers and Composites, who has featured for five consecutive years.
The following WMG academics are also amongst those recognised for their consistent contributions to their respective fields:
- Carsten Maple, Professor of Cyber Systems Engineering
- Louis Piper, Professor of Battery Innovation
- Professor James Marco, Head of the Battery Systems Research Group
- Dr Taofeeq Ibn-Mohammed, Associate Professor in Sustainable Systems Engineering
- Dr Hany Atlam, Assistant Professor and Course Director for MSc Cyber Security Engineering
- Dr Saif Ul Islam, Research Fellow in Cyber Systems Engineering
- Professor Robert Harrison, Head of Automation Systems
- Dr Dezhi Li, Senior Research Fellow
Professor Kerry Kirwan, Dean of WMG, praised all those who had been honoured: “I am delighted to see so many WMG colleagues recognised for their outstanding contributions. Every day, they work to make the world a better, more sustainable place by finding solutions to real-world problems. I'm immensely proud of them all”.
