Dr John Low is Assistant Professor specialising in Energy for Low Carbon Vehicles. He has previously worked at the Electrochemical Engineering Laboratory and as part of the Energy Technology Research Group at the University of Southampton. He was trained as a Chemical Engineer (Bath University, BEng Chemical Engineering with one-year spent in industrial training, 2000-2004), then Electrochemist (Southampton University, PhD, 2004-2007) and later Electrochemical Engineer (Southampton University, Research Fellow, 2007-2013).
During his period of postdoctoral training, he carried out a number of UK research council and industry funded programmes, e.g. EPSRC, ICUK, DTI, MOD, and as a technology transfer business fellow (London Technology Network, 2010), and as a consulting engineer in the Research Institute for Industry at Southampton University. His training was at the interface of industry and academia. He has received several awards including IChemE undergraduate best design project (2003), Westinghouse Prize (twice, 2008 and 2010) and Jim Kape Memorial Medal (2011), from The UK Institute of Materials Finishing and Institute of Chemical Engineers.
