Siddartha Khastgir is the Head of Verification & Validation (V&V) of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) at WMG, University of Warwick. He is the technical lead for WMG on various collaborative research and development projects (Innovate UK funded - StreetWise, OmniCAV, SAVVY, and UKIERI funded - Safety of AI).
In September 2019, Siddartha received the prestigious UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Future Leaders Fellowship . His Fellowship is titled - "Enabling a Novel Evaluation Continuum for Connected & Autonomous Vehicles (CAV)" . He has been recognised both nationally and internationally for his applied research contributions, featuring in the Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe 2018 in the Industry list, and giving a TEDx talk on safety of CAVs.
Before starting his role as Head of V&V for CAV at WMG, Siddartha completed his PhD at WMG under the supervision of Professor Paul Jennings. Having developed a diverse portfolio of industrial experience in the automotive sector in different parts of the world: India at Tata Motors, Germany at FEV GmbH and now in the UK, leading multi-cultural teams to deliver large commercial projects successfully. He completed his undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, India.
A Chartered Engineer, Siddartha is a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), UK. He is also the UK's technical representative on the International Standards (ISO) committee (ISO TC 204/WG14 and ISO TC22/ SC33/ WG9) and is a part of the international team of experts working to create standards for automated driving. Currently, he is the lead author of a proposed international standard on self-driving shuttles/pods.
Siddartha is a firm believer in giving back to the engineering profession by inspiring students into engineering, upskilling, and re-skilling (young and experienced) engineers. An active volunteer of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) UK, he was elected as a member of the IMechE Council and also as the Chairman of IMechE's International Young Member Committee (IYMC) (representing over 20,000 of the IMechE's international young members). He has focused his activities on increasing the digital offerings of professional courses/webinars for young members internationally to help them to upskill themselves.
For his contributions to the field of mobility and applied research, he was recognised as the UK's Young Engineer (Under 30) 2017 by TechWorks, ITS UK Young Professional of the Year 2017 and was among the Top 30 researchers in engineering invited to present at the UK's House of Lords as part of the STEM for Britain 2017 event.
