Hybrid Electric Rail Project


The project aims to determine the feasibility of hybrid electric rail vehicles for high speed and commuter routes.

Research challenge

How much fuel could be saved by a hybrid rail vehicle compared to a conventional rail vehicle over a range of different routes.

Project outcomes

Proved that the hybrid vehicle simulation models for automotive applications developed at WMG can be applied to the rail industry.
