25-28th January 2016: Invited talk at EMN Ceramics conference, Hong Kong
Claire gave an invited talk on processing of magnesium diboride at the "Energy Materials and Nanotechnology: Ceramics" conference held in Hong Kong. Good conference, but made sure to see something of Hong Kong as well! Below is a picture of the "Tian Tan" Buddha statue on Lantau Island.
15th December 2015: Newcastle University Seminar
Claire travelled to Newcastle University to present the Chemical Engineering and Advanced Materials seminar on "Measurement and Control of Residual Stress in Ceramic Materials". Thanks to Dr Daniel Frankel for the invitation and for hosting!
16-17th October 2015: Outreach at the Festival of the Imagination
Claire joined colleagues from IINM and the Materials GRP to run Interactive Materials sessions at the Festival of the Imagination at the University of Warwick. Fun with plasticine, plastic bags and lots of different materials! Thanks to all the volunteers from Chemistry and WMG!
5th October 2015: Lots of New Group Members!
Welcome to Darius Daruvalla-Riccio, MEng Project student
Darius is a 3rd year undergraduate student in Engineering and will be carrying out his project on manufacturing electromagnetic structured materials using ceramic 3D printing. Darius is co-supervised by Dr Greg Gibbons of the Additive Layer Manufacturing Group at WMG.
Welcome to Nikita Bascombe, MEng Project student
Nikita is a 3rd year undergraduate student in Engineering and will be carrying out her project on manufacturing polymer-ceramic materials for 3D printing electromagnetic structures. Nikita is co-supervised by Dr Greg Gibbons of the Additive Layer Manufacturing Group at WMG.
Welcome to Dr Kemal Ozturk, Academic Visitor
Kemal joins us for the next year as a visiting academic. He will be working on developing methods to produce reinforced superconducting magnets.
16th/17th September 2015: Recent Appointees in Materials Conference
Along with Dr Gemma-Louise Davies (Chemistry) and Dr John Murphy (Engineering), Claire organised the Recent Appointees in Materials conference 2015 at Warwick. Over 60 delegates enjoyed two packed days of technical talks and posters, plenary sessions, and lively panel discussions, with the highlight perhaps the conference dinner at Warwick Castle, complete with live sword-fighting knights! For the conference in tweets, see this Storify page.
