Dr Kobby A-Kodua received his Masters degree and PhD in Advanced Manufacturing Systems
Engineering and Management from the Wolfson School of Mechanical and Manufacturing
Engineering, Loughborough University-UK. He completed his first degree in Mechanical Engineering
in 2000 and worked as a Design Engineer at GRATIS Foundation, focussing on new product
development, prototyping and CAD/CAM applications. He later moved to join Nestle Ltd as a
Manufacturing Systems Engineer in charge of maintenance planning, stock control, production
systems design and ERP implementation. He maintained this role until 2005 when he went back
into full time education.
Prior to joining the University of Warwick in 2013, he was Research Fellow and promoted to Senior
Research Fellow in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering of the University
of Nottingham-UK, where he led a number of high profiled European and EPSRC projects. Dr
Agyapong-Kodua until 2013 was the Work Package Leader for both the FP7 large scale funded
project on rapid design of digital factories (COPERNICO) and EPSRC/EoN funded project on
Innovative building retrofitting technologies (CALEBRE). He later co-authored three successful EU
and EPSRC multi-million projects: 1) Plug and Produce Intelligent Multi Agent Environment based
on Standard Technology (PRIME); 2) Evolvable Assembly Systems-Towards Open, Adaptable and
Context-aware Equipment and Systems and 3) Cloud Manufacturing-Towards Resilient and
Sustainable High Value Manufacturing.
Dr Agyapong-Kodua is a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology and serves as a
reviewer of the Journal of Process Mechanical Engineering (IMechE Part E) and Engineering
Manufacture (IMechE Part B). He has been keynote speaker at international conferences in
Manufacturing Engineering and reliably serves on a number of leading committees in
manufacturing sciences.
He has published 2 books on manufacturing systems design and 20 papers in leading international
journals (such as IJPR and IJCIM) and conference proceedings. These publications were based on
his leadership in a number of projects such as: Life Cycle Engineering of Hi-Vol Next Generation
Composite Wing Manufacture-Airbus UK; Virtual design, manufacture and evaluation of airconditioning
manufacturing processes-Shenling China and Digital modelling of manufacturing
processes in support of lean implementation- Artform International, UK.
Dr Agyapong-Kodua’s research interest include digital manufacturing and assembly technologies,
innovative early stage prediction tools and methods for optimal design solutions, model driven
evolvable manufacturing/assembly systems design, cost engineering of production systems and
optimal process improvement through enterprise modelling techniques. His research area is
strongly supported by his knowledge in semantic technologies, multi agent applications, database
engineering, artificial intelligence, enterprise modelling, data mining and web services.
