Pre-conference workshops

Two pre-conference workshops on Avizo and Simpleware will run concurrently on Wednesday 12th July between 09.45-16.15. They are aimed at new users to the software having a hands-on focus, interspersed with presentations on advanced features that cannot be covered in the time available. A plenary seminar by NPL on "Introduction to Measurement" will also be incorporated midway in the programme.

If you are interested in attending, please inform at registration. Places are limited to 16 delegates per session so early booking is advisable.

Attendees may prefer to stay in the area overnight with the conference the following day. Registration does not include accomodation, but there are two hotels that are a short drive from the university; Premier Inn Coventry South, and Holiday Inn Kenilworth.

Avizo (FEI)

Avizo - gearImaging techniques such as Computed Tomography is increasingly used in industry as a method for nondestructive testing, adding to standard CMM the ability to make digital measures and detect and quantify defects inside a part.

Integrating expertise acquired over more than 10 years and developed in collaboration with major industrial partners in the aerospace, automotive, and consumer goods industries, Avizo software allows to visualize, analyze, measure and inspect parts and materials acquired by CT systems and microscopy.

Avizo software provides a comprehensive set of tools addressing the whole research-to-production cycle: from materials research in off-line labs to automated quality control in production environments.

Simpleware (Synopsys)

Simpleware - manifoldSimpleware software enables you to comprehensively process 3D image data (MRI, CT, micro-CT, FIB-SEM...) and export models suitable for CAD, CAE and 3D printing. Use ScanIP to visualise, analyse, quantify and process your data, and to export surface models/meshes.

ScanIP is easy-to-learn and use, and includes video recording features and options to export surface models/meshes from segmented data for CAD and 3D printing. Additional modules are available for exporting CAE meshes, integrating image data and CAD, exporting NURBS and calculating effective material properties from scans.

Introduction to measurement (NPL)


This session provided by NPL intends to give a short introduction to coordinate measurement, exploring the challenges to metrology engineers posed by modern technologies.

Emphasis and attention will be given to constructing datum systems, geometrical tolerances and general linear tolerances and features associated in all aspects. Further an outline to NPL training, its structure and accreditation systems will be given.
