New Project Students
Two new project students from Engineering have joined the Ceramics group. Daniel Porter will be working on "Slow crack growth in graded ceramic materials" for his MEng in Mechanical Engineering Individual Project. Josiah Kyomuhendo will be working on "Evaluation of energy use in conventional and field-assisted ceramic manufacturing routes" for his BEng in Mechanical Engineering Individual Project. Looking forward to seeing what they find out over the next two terms!
Gareth Jones joins the Ceramics Group
Gareth Jones has started his PhD in the group, working on "Flash sintering of ceramic electrolyte materials for solid state batteries", sponsored by Lucideon and funded via the ERDF and Keele University. Gareth joins us having completed his MChem at Warwick in 2018, and will be supervised by Dr Claire Dancer and Dr Emma Kendrick.
Sam Hall completes his MAS CDT MSc Mini Project
Sam submitted his final thesis for his MAS CDT MSc Mini Project, describing his work looking ways to perform successful 4-point bending tests with simultaneous XCT scanning. Sam now moves on to a PhD with Dr Reinhard Maurer in Chemistry - good luck for the future Sam!
Presentations at the European Materials Research Society Meeting in Warsaw
Claire gave two presentations at the E-MRS Meeting in Warsaw, both focusing on the group's work on polymer-ceramic composites based on barium titanate and polypropylene. "Extrusion-based scalable production of all-dielectric composite materials for electromagnetic devices" was presented in Symposium D "Multifunctional advanced composite materials: from idea to market" and "Characterisation of interfaces in highly-loaded extruded dielectric polymer-ceramic nanocomposites" in Symposium F "Surfaces and interfaces in multilayered thin films and nano-composites". Papers on both these topics coming soon!
