The ALM group have a significant portfolio of facilities, supporting their reseach, teaching and industrial engagement activities. Our technologies span 7 of the 8 families of ALM technolgies as defined by the ASTM F2792 Standard.

Form 2 (Formlabs) - see details

Form 1+ (Formlabs)

The Form 1+ and Form 2 are desktop printers that produces high resolution polymeric components at low cost. The micro machines use stereolithography (SLA) technology to achieve a high resolution and quality finish. The machines are capable of printing high-performance resins, such as, transparent, opaque, stiff, flexible and investment castable materials.

Material Extrusion (Fused Deposition Modelling)

Fortus 400mc (Stratasys) - see details The Stratasys 400mc 3D printing system uses fused deposition modelling technology which draws cross-sectional layers of heated thermoplastic polymer or ceramic material until it reaches a semi-liquid state, the layers bond together and solidify to a solid 3D dimensional part. The system builds in four materials (ABS, PEI, PC and PPSF), with options of layer thickness to achieve the desired outcome. 768SST (Stratasys) - see details The Stratasys 3D printing system uses fused deposition modelling (FDM) technology, which draws cross-sectional layers of heated thermoplastic polymer or ceramic material until it reaches a semi-liquid state, the layers bond together and solidify to a solid 3D dimensional shape. The FDM process can produce high strength and waterproof models, which can be created within a matter of hours. 768SST

SmartPump NScrypt

The SmartPump is a positive pressure pump that utilizes patented valving that allows for near perfect starts and stops (no drooling). This is controlled using digital input and therefore this can be programmed to accommodate a wide range of materials from 1 cP to well over a million cP. Additionally, the materials can be loaded with a wide range of particles, flakes, rods or tubes.

The SmartPump is a proven rugged micro-dispensing pump that has demonstrated printed lines as small as 15 microns and dots smaller than 25 microns. Control is provided via CNC, providing control of depositon characteristics and 3-axis motion.

Material Jetting

J750 (Stratasys) The first multi-colour, multi-material 3d printers. Utilising patented and proven PolyJet Matrix 3d printing technology, the new Objet Connex3 range of 3d printers combine vivid colour with rigid and flexible rubber-like materials to produce accurate and precise parts that look, feel and function like the real product. Available in three build platform sizes to suit your workspace, Connex3 printers offer the broadest range of materials available including vibrant colours, transparent tints, opaque and clear transparent parts. Additionally, printers in the Connex3 range have the ability to combine Digital Material compositions such as Digital ABS with flexible rubber-like materials in a range of shore(A) values, offering more than 450 DM variations J750
Connex 260 (Stratasys) The Connex multi-material printer has dual-jet technology that combines two base resins. The Connex can combine different material properties in the same prototype to create the most realistic 3D models, including functioning complex assemblies, seals, hinges and representations of 2k and 3k injection moulded products, including over-mouldings. The technology also has application in the rapid manufacture of injection mould tool inserts for rapid delivery of prototypes in end-use material and from the final production process. Connex 260
Projet MPJ 2500 Plus (3D Systems) Print precision parts right in your office, with true-to-CAD part quality and accuracy in plastic and elastomeric materials for true functional testing. Each printer in the series is compatible with robust and versatile VisiJet® M2 materials in durable white and black plastic. The ProJet MJP 2500 Plus offers additional material capability with rigid clear plastic, as well as flexible elastomeric black and elastomeric natural with outstanding elongation and full elastic recovery. XY 100 Inkjet Printer - see details. IIJ’s XYPrint 100 is a complete, high accuracy inkjet system designed for inkjet process development. It is optimised for rapid experimentation with quick-change low volume ink systems, interchangeable printheads and full control of printhead parameters, print resolution, print speed and drying or curing of the ink. Binder Jetting

310+ (ZCorporation) The ZPrinter 310 Plus creates physical models directly from digital data in hours instead of days. It is fast, versatile and simple, allowing engineers to produce a range of concept models and functional test parts quickly and inexpensively. 310+

Powder Bed Fusion

EOS M280 - see details. The laser melting system for additive manufacture produces high quality metal components, tool inserts, prototypes and end products. The EOSINT M 280 is based directly on three-dimensional CAD data. It is equipped with a 400W fibre laser which melts fine metal powder and builds up the product layer by layer. This method allows you to create products with extremely complex geometries including elements such as free-form surfaces, deep slots and coolant ducts. eos_m280.jpg

Hybrid

PTA arc / CNC hybrid - see details.

The system integrates the CNC controlled Plasma Transferred Arc welding deposition of metals (cladding) with CNC machining to enable the manufacture of complex and net shaped metal components. The system can utilise wire or powder feed, offering maximum flexibility to the user. In powder feed mode, multiple material feeds can be used simultaneously, enabling the combination of different materials, offering unique alloys or composite materials.
