UK CITE - Connected Intelligent Transport Environment
UK CITE is a globally unique project funded by the Government’s £100m Connected and Autonomous Vehicle fund, delivered by Innovate UK (the UK’s innovation agency) enabling automotive, infrastructure and service companies to trial connected vehicle technology, infrastructure and services in real-life conditions on 40 miles of roads within Coventry and Warwickshire. The project will establish how technology can improve journeys, reduce traffic congestion and provide in-vehicle entertainment and safety services through better connectivity and will see trials on public roads in 2018.
The UK CITE consortium comprises leading industry, academic and local and national governmental organisations. It is jointly led by Visteon Engineering Services Limited and Jaguar Land Rover and includes WMG, Coventry City Council, Coventry University, Highways England Company Ltd, HORIBA MIRA, Huawei Technologies (UK) Ltd, Siemens and Vodafone Group Services Ltd. The UK CITE project will create the UK’s first fully connected infrastructure on public roads using a combination of wireless technologies, which can enable real-world testing in a safe and managed way.

Infrastructure on routes along the M40, M42, A46, and A45, as well as an urban route in Coventry, and the preparation of a Vehicle, Systems and Gantry App, will ensure variable roadside messages appear in-vehicle, either on the vehicle display or smartphone.
Cyber Security
Our cyber security experts are currently assessing cyber security state of the art of DSRC, LTE and LTE-V for V2X road transport applications taking into consideration the use cases implemented as part of this project, reviewing the current ITS architecture and security mechanisms.
Business Case
An important aspect of the project is assessing the business case for investing in V2I infrastructure. Our Operations and Supply Chains Strategy team is exploring the potential business models for commercialisation to ensure that business plans enable the progression to the next stage of technological development. Assuming technological feasibility and whilst at an early stage of their development, this research team has been gathering appropriate information for connected highways, motorways and the automotive sector.
