Research Interests

Cross-linguistic modelling of the voicing contrast, the voicing contrast in 'true voice' languages, factors inducing variability in speech production, intermediate VOTs; bilingualism, heritage language acquisition in bilinguals, sound systems in bilingual speakers.

I am a linguist with specialisation in phonetics. I obtained a doctoral degree in Speech Sciences from Newcastle University and I have taught at Reading University and Newcastle University. My recent research has focused on the modelling of the voicing contrast and the relationship between language-universal and language-specific phonetic detail. Currently I am researching the effect of speaking rate on speech production and sound production and perception in bilingual speakers.
