Module Content
  • This module will explore the multifaceted interconnections between language and culture, drawing particularly on insights from cross-cultural/intercultural pragmatics.
  • From a languages education perspective, critical understanding of the impact of culture on language use and language development will be explored.
  • In the later stages of the course there will be a focus on developing understanding of intercultural language teaching pedagogy, especially in terms of the procedures for planning and implementing language-and-culture courses – here, selected resources and activities for developing competence in language-and-culture will be evaluated.
  • Finally, knowledge gained from the course will inform the development and evaluation of some of your own language-and-culture classroom materials.
