Professional Development for English Language Teachers Online (PDELT-O)

Overview

The University of Warwick is delighted to introduce the choice of three online courses designed for EFL/ESP lecturers. All of our courses are designed and taught by Fellows at Warwick Applied Linguistics, with guest lecturers brought in from the wider university when required.

Our teacher training courses will encourage participants to reflect on their current teaching skills, and to identify relevant areas of practice to research further. The live sessions, supported by online resources and activities, will promote a deeper understanding of teaching and learning in context, and will enhance teacher knowledge and skills. In a broader context, participation in this course will also encourage teachers to grow professionally , with a view to extending to new roles and responsibilities within their own classrooms and organizations.

For each 10 week course, there are 6 hours per week of teaching, consisting of a 1 hour webinar, 2 hours of asynchronous input and three hours of tasks.

Teaching English for Academic Purposes (TEAP)

This is a course for teachers who wish to develop a better theoretical and practical understanding of Teaching English for Academic Purposes (TEAP) in higher education settings. It is also an opportunity for participants to work alongside experienced teachers and trainers working in EAP, to investigate key issues in the design and delivery of courses of academic English, and to develop and practise skills in their own areas of teaching.

Delivered as a blended learning course, live input sessions will help participants focus on the core competencies necessary to become an effective EAP teacher, drawing upon theory, research and practice in the field. This live input will be supported throughout both phases of the course with a dedicated online course site that will offer a range of resources for participants to draw upon, for example readings and lectures.
