Understanding and supporting the psychological wellbeing of fathers of children with Intellectual Disability (ID)

Few studies have explored the wellbeing of fathers of children with ID despite the significant role that they play in their children’s lives and the family system. In this presentation I will discuss what we know about the psychological wellbeing of fathers of children with ID, drawing upon findings from an analysis of secondary population-representative data which compared fathers of children with and without ID on four wellbeing and parenting measures and explored predictors of paternal wellbeing. I will also provide an overview of my postdoctoral fellowship activities which involve consultation and co-production with fathers of children with ID.
