Transition from primary to secondary school for children with Williams Syndrome and Down Syndrome: issues and examples of good practice
"Given that children with neurodevelopmental disorders often have difficulties with social skills, emotion regulation, anxiety, and academic attainment, it can be predicted that the transition from primary to secondary school is especially challenging. Yet, little is known about the commonalities and differences in the transition experiences of children with Williams Syndrome (WS) and Down Syndrome (DS). In this talk, I will discuss the findings from our Transcend study which included a multi-informant design to examine issues and good practice in relation to the preparation and transition process from primary to secondary school for children with WS and DS (N=20 per group). In addition, we examined how mental health and wellbeing of these children changed over this transition period."
