COMBATTING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN THE WORKPLACE: EUROPEAN UNION DAPHNE INITIATIVE
Researcher: Andrew Parker
CEDAR was commissioned by the GMB Trade Union to design and manage the research element of their latest workplace initiative which sought to identify ways in which union convenors and stewards might deal with workers suffering the consequences of domestic violence. This was a 12-month project running between December 1999 and December 2000 and was part of the European Commission's second call for funding under the DAPHNE Initiative (EU Justice and Home Affairs Task Force). The project was both regional and international. Based within the Black Country, it involved GMB affiliated companies, the four Black Country Borough Councils (Walsall, Wolverhampton, Sandwell and Dudley) and women's refuge agencies. At the same time, workplace measures and initiatives generated by the project were mirrored by the Seville-based Spanish Trade Union, UGT. See projects completed in 2002.
