Researchers: Geoff Lindsay, Daniel Muijs, Dr Dimitra Hartas and Dr Emma Phillips
Researched by Professor Geoff Lindsay, Dr Daniel Muijs and Dr Dimitra Hartas of the Warwick Institute of Education, together with Dr Emma Phillips, this study evaluated the initial period of the National Academy for Gifted and Talented Youth. The focus was on the first Talent Search and the first Summer School (July-August 2002). The research included questionnaires to parents and the young people themselves and interviews with about one third of those attending the summer school. Interviews were also held with key staff including the tutors at the summer school. Observation of selection procedures for the Summer School and teaching sessions were also undertaken. Finally, analyses were conducted of the characteristics of those in the Talent Search and the assessment methods used by the Academy. This was a very intensive study, mostly concentrated into 4 months. A final report has been presented.
