RAISING ATTAINMENT IN SCHOOLS IN FORMER COALFIELD AREAS
Researchers: Alma Harris, Daniel Muijs and Chris Chapman
This six month research project is focusing upon eight schools in the former coalfield areas that have demonstrated successive gains in performance over time. The empirical evidence concerning improving schools in challenging circumstances is not extensive and funding to explore this issue is limited. Hence, this DfES research grant will provide rich case study evidence about the ways in which schools in difficult contexts sustain improvement over time. It is the first study to explore improvement in schools in the former coalfield areas and it is anticipated that further research work will be forthcoming on this theme.
