TEACHING CREATIVELY AND TEACHING FOR THE CREATIVITY THROUGH THE ARTS IN SOLIHULL RESEARCH PROJECT
Directors: Jo Trowsdale (WIE) and Geoff Lindsay
'Teaching Creatively' was created by the Arts and Primary Inspectors in Solihull with the support of teachers, the Arts Development Officer and additional RALP funding for artist involvement. It was conceived as professional development to develop understanding in the borough about creativity and thinking skills and to offer further support to a longer-term aim to develop awareness of the potential of the arts. The research investigated key assumptions underpinning the project including that the arts are potentially fertile sites for providing creativity and developing thinking skills which are relevant across the whole curriculum. Research methods included a review of initial audit on three focus schools, analyses of school level data, interviews with key personnel and pupils, questionnaires and observation of work in school.
